Heating, Ventilation, & A/C System

The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are controlled by the computer system. These systems operate on the basis of receiving information from teh sensors in various locations (INPUTS). When those conditions match the preprogrammed circumstances, the computer causes certain actuators to adjust accordingly (OUTPUTS).

In a late model automobile, an act as seemingly simple as turning on the A/C involves a computer receiving that signal from the (INPUT), monitoring as many as seven other operating conditions (INPUTS), and if conditions match its program, it causes the A/C clutch to engage, the cooling fans and blower motor to run and engine idle speed to increase (to accommodate the compressor and alternator loads being added). These actions are all OUTPUTS.

Maintenance Tips:

Check belts, hoses and heater lines every 20,000 miles. Replace if there is any sign of damage, leak or bubble, or if hoses feel soft and spongy. In any case, replace belts and hoses every 30,000 miles or 4 years.

Clean condenser and radiator fins every 20,000 miles

Check vacuum control lines every 20,000 miles
